Apple Inaugurated The First Store In India

By: Hozan Qaraman

Apple inaugurated the first store in Mumbai, India, with the aim of moving away almost all its dependence from China’s manufacturing industry. 14 years ago, Apple had ribbon cutting the first store in China due to the suitable market there. As far as it is considered, it is India’s turn now and Apple switches the Chinese market to India's.

Apple CEO Tim Cook interpreted the situation of India’s market in 2017 as how China was worthy of establishing the firm’s dependence in both manufacturing and selling terms.

According to figures, Apple has benefited hugely with the growth in China’s economy and its cheap labour market over the past years, but the recent political and economical reasons that were firstly seen under the Trump administration pushes Apple towards a possible move from China. However, Beijing’s modern policy is to care of its own economy more than others, so that has made Apple consider its destiny in China.

India is about to become the most populous country and has both risks and opportunities for Apple. For instance, Indians' cheap labour market would make profits for the firm despite that the country has a poorer population compared to China. Even though, according to Bloomberg, Apple had a 50% increase in revenues in India’s market in the first quarter of 2023 as that reflects positivity for the company and its future in India.
