Middle East Theater is a non-profit young scholars foundation based in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It is a hub for scholarly studies focused on youth and women in the Middle East. ME-T encourages young experts, researchers, and scholars to take part in research projects that address the economic, social and political problems of the day, striving to find practical and feasible solutions. ME-T provides a free, egalitarian and independent space for young women and men to discuss, to create, and to implement their ideas.


ME-T is currently accepting applications for the nine-month position of Research Fellow. The Research Fellow at ME-T will support and participate in collaborative research projects and contribute to scholarship and research on the topic of youth in the contemporary Middle East. The fellowship’s goal is to allow early career scholars the flexibility to pursue their own research goals, while also contributing to and supporting ME-T’s young scholars’ research projects and assist their interests in research and writing for ME-T Journal. Research Fellows are typically recent graduate students with an interest in gaining skills in project management, operational activities, event management, and substantive research support.


Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the Middle East, and previous research experience in the region is necessary. Kurdish and Arabic language skills are desirable but not required. Candidates with interest or experience in one of MET’s core project areas of focus are encouraged to apply:

 Demonstrated event coordination/management experience is required as the Research Fellow will be responsible for the development of ME-T’s first annual summit, bringing together young scholars working on issues pertaining to youth in the contemporary Middle East. The Research Fellow will lead event planning and coordination with the programme’s manager and must be highly motivated, and be flexible to adapt to changing priorities.


Term


This fellowship is a one-year appointment beginning September 01, 2022, and ending May 31, 2023. The financial package includes a total salary of $10,800 ($1,500 per month). A round-trip ticket and accommodation is provided and visa and residency costs are covered.


Fellows are required to be in residence at ME-T during the tenure of the fellowship. During their residence, fellows write for ME-T Journal and participate in all ME-T events, including workshops, meetings, and seminars.
